D7 Visa (also known as the 'passive income' and 'retirement' visa)

Foreigners (Non-EU/EEA/CH) who wish to move to Portugal and are able to live on their own income can apply for the D7 visa. It is an ideal option for retirees and entrepreneurs who want to avoid making a major economic commitment.

  • No investment commitment required (contrary to the Golden Visa)

  • Schengen visa

  • Tax benefit: "Non-Habitual Resident" (NHR)

  • Resident permit for one year; renewable for successive periods of two years; can be converted into a permanent resident permit after five years

  • Family reunification

  • For a twelve-months period, you need to prove that you have: 7'200 EUR for the first adult; 3'600 EUR for the second or more adults; 2'160 EUR per child

Please note that, contrary to the Golden Visa, a D7 visa holder is required to reside in Portugal for an average of six months per year.
